Leading the list for the Clovers will be 189 pounder Alex Gardiner (28-4) who worked his way to the championship match before falling to 30-5 Plainfield senior Jake Russell.
The Clovers also had a pair of fourth place wrestlers who also advanced, including 103 pound freshman Zach Waycott (28-6) and 152 pound freshman, Josh Hatten (18-8).
Waycott won his trip to Mooresville by advancing to the consolation match before falling by a pin against 25-12 Jacob Barton of Brownsburg.
Hatten earned a trip to the regional by finishing fourth in the consolation round against 27-11 John Parker of South Putnam.
Although he did not advance to the regional, Cloverdale's junior Derick Evans finished fifth in the 160 pound class and closed out his season at 13-14.
In the team standings the championship went to Plainfield with 260 points. Avon was second with 241, Brownsburg third with 227, Greencastle fourth with 122, North Putnam fifth, South Putnam sixth, Danville seventh, Tri West eighth, Cascade ninth and the Clovers finished the field in tenth with 65.5 team points.
As it turned out, the Clovers wasted no time in putting the Eagles in a hole and they held on to take a 72-56 win... on a night when the guests of honor included the CHS 1966 Final Four team and 1,000+ point scores.
Holding a strong 35-23 advantage on the boards, the Clovers led at every break, 14-7, 28-23, 46-39 and finally the 16 point win, but it wasn't as wide open as the final score might indicate.
According to CHS coach Pat Rady, the Eagles had cut the lead to just five with four minutes left on the clock... thus once again calling for the CHS four corner offense. With the Eagles forced to foul, the Clovers walked to the free throw line 19 times in the final period and drilled 16 to walk away to the 16 point win. They finished the game hitting 22 of 27 compared to 13 of 16 for South Putnam.
Looking at the rebounding stats, Cloverdale's Christian Cheatham led the Clovers with eight while both Michael Neese and Craig Blair pulled down seven.
Scoring for CHS found senior Chase Haltom leading the pack with 23 that included 7 of 7 free throws, senior Kyle McCammon finished with 15, Neese had 11, Blair six, Cheatham six, senior Luke Lovins six, Tyler Cooper two, Ryan Dean two and Eli Trinkle one.
Matt Hicks led the top four for the Eagles with a 26 point game while Drew Cristy had 10, Zach Rhine seven, and Anthony Tomasino seven.
The Clovers also had four assists, including a team leading four by Haltom.
From a standpoint of CHS free throws, three players are shooting .750 or higher. McCammon leads the pack with 48 of 58 for .828, Haltom is 48 of 61 for .787 and Neese 30 of 40 for .750 as the season heads into the February homestretch.
Not only did the win avenge the earlier season loss to the Eagles, it gave CHS ownership of the "Putnam County Bucket" and a 4-1 record in the West Central Conference.
The Clovers also traveled to Owen Valley Saturday night and came home on the wrong end of a 65-54 game to leave their season record at 11-4.
But that outcome would not be in the cards as the Clovers dropped the game 65-54.
As was expected, the game was tight from the beginning. The Clovers came out with all guns firing, hitting three long-range shots in the first quarter. But the Patriots were able to take a 16-13 lead after the first quarter.
The Patriots pushed ahead by as many as seven points in the second quarter. But Clover Kyle McCammon knocked down four three-point shots in that quarter, including one in the last ten seconds of play, to help his team tie the game at the half, 29-29.
A strong free throw shooting Cloverdale squad put their talents to work in the third quarter, hitting all eight of their shots from the line in the third. They were able to take the lead within the first two minutes of the second half and worked their way to a five-point lead going into the final eight minutes of the game, 47-42.
The Patriots crashed the boards in the fourth quarter, outrebounding Cloverdale 16-6 in the final quarter, giving OV extra offensive looks. The Patriots capitalized on those looks to regain the lead early.
OV scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter, giving them a 51-47 lead with the second of two slam dunks from Harry Marshall with six minutes on the clock.
The Clovers were able to tie the score at 53-53 with 3:25 on the clock. But the Patriots quickly regained the lead and never gave it up again.
Owen Valley went on a 12-1 run in the last three minutes of the game, capped off by a slam dunk from Madorin in the last second, giving OV a 65-54 victory.
The Clovers had three players in double figures, led by McCammon with 18 points, while Chase Haltom had 16 and Michael Neese 11 with eight rebounds. Craig Blair had six points and Luke Lovins two. Christian Cheatham finished with eight rebounds.
Harry Marshall led all scores with 27 points, along with 18 rebounds. Jared Maners also put up double figures with 17 points. Shawn Madorin finished with seven points and nine rebounds, Ben Nanny had five points and nine rebounds, Kyle Mortimer had five points and Temples four.
